Welcome to Lingua, Frankly
Writing tips, language fun, advice, and stories for people who write.
Maybe you already love writing. Maybe you hate writing, but your boss is telling you it’s part of your job. Or maybe you just like reading fun short posts about language.
Welcome!
Lingua, Frankly will share easy, fun tips that can help you improve your writing (unless it’s already perfect). There’ll be some etymology for the language nerds, fun stories, and some advice for people who don’t want to write but are told they have to.
Along the way, I’ll try to take the mystery out of things that seem more complicated than they have to be. From the passive voice to the perils of false attraction to the predicate nominative, I’ll break things down so they’re more interesting and less opaque. And, of course, there are stories—peanut butter and jelly, garden paths, and the curse of knowledge. You’re here at a good time.
Let’s get started.
Peter Conrad is an artist and writer with a penchant for etymology and a knack for the technical. His comics, code, and writing appear in surprising places.
